Social Gatherings

Photograph by Shelton Muller.

Last Tuesday night saw a group of brave photographers risking wind and waves at Mordialloc pier for the Five Minute Photographer end of year meet. Most of the regulars turned up but we had one keen individual fly in from Queensland just to hang out with the Guru and the rest of us.

This night saw the unveiling of my “Voice Activated Light Stand” t-shirt and Shelton decided that it needed an appropriate image.

It was a great night with much laughter, mateship and photography. Can’t wait for the next one, which means I better organise it!

My wish list

Just had this thought come to me as I was editing wedding images. If I could have a photograph session with any five people I have met, who would they be?

#1 - My ex-wife

I don’t actually have many photographs of her at all and our marriage ended before I really got into photography. I love the chance to sit her down and photograph her properly.  She has the most expressive eyes and her face lights up when she laughs like noone else I know.

#2 - My ex-girlfriend Lucy

Although I have many photographs of Lucy (much more than I do my ex-wife) I never really got the chance to do a proper shoot with her.  Again, the eyes. I reckon I could get some amazing shots.

#3 - Meagan Morris

Meagan (excuse spelling) has been a bridesmaid at two of my weddings and I would love the chance to work with her one-on-one both in a studio and on location somewhere.  Once again … the eyes.

#4 - Musician Tommy Emmanuel

Such an expressive man and musician would be amazing to work with. I have had the hounor of many moments with the great man but have never nailed him down for a photo session. One day.

#5 - My Son

My favourite photo of him was taken on the one occasion he stood still for more than ten seconds. I’d love to be able to shoot him properly.

I’d be interested to hear your lists and reasons. If you haven’t left a comment before it goes into a moderation queue before being published.

I’ll have a portrait shoot with my chicken please.

I had great pleasure in accepting a dinner invitation from Sarah and Will this evening. I haven’t seen these guys in around five years and I had a lovely meal with them and their two gorgeous girls.

Will has expressed an interest in photography so I took my big camera bag along to show him and answer any questions he might have. As soon as one of the girls saw the cameras she was ready and posing. The other took a little while to warm up but once she was ready, she was working the camera like a professional!

Will was fascinated by the Nikon Creative Lighting System and ebjoyed being a VALS whilst I took the photos.

Great catching up with you guys and I hope to see you again before too long.

“Sneak Peek” - Liz & Michael

A fantastic day spent with a great bunch of people. More to follow once the happy couple have viewed the images. Also my first shoot with my new assistant Tim.
